ZURICH - On a sunny morning in early March, we met the Italian-Swiss DJ Maurizio Colella, known as EDX.
It is not the first time we have found ourselves face to face with Maurizio but, usually, our meetings took place exclusively in the clubs during his performance. This time we were luckier: Maurizio dedicated a few hours of his time to us for a more in-depth chat during which he told us a little about himself and his career.
“The passion for music has always been inside me - EDX confides to us - I started playing at 15 and, from that moment on, I never stopped. I still remember the first time I played in a club, I was extremely excited, my hands were sweating, I thought I wouldn't make it and, instead, today here I am recalling that day with a smile on my lips. Thanks to music I travel the world and I am happy. I have played practically everywhere, Europe, Asia, Australia, Brazil, America, and every time it is always a unique emotion. I like to see the effect of my sound on different kinds of audience, I like to involve everyone and try to make the crowd have fun, whether it is a club of 200 people or a festival of 30,000. I came back last week from America, I played in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York and, I must admit, electronic music is forcefully entering the American market, it is causing a sensation among the clubbers across the ocean. In the middle of the month I will leave for Miami to take part in the Winter Music Conference, an appointment with the best international DJs that has become indispensable for me.”
Success after success, remix after remix, EDX has climbed the charts of the whole world in a short time. His latest work is “On the Edge”, released in 2012 and which, in a very short time, has led him to reach numerous milestones that confirm him, once again, as a genuine artist of electronic music. “I am proud of my work - Maurizio stresses - with my music I want to entertain people. I play for my audience and they dance for me, it is an exchange of energy in constant evolution. I like to get in tune with those who listen to me, it is nice to create a relationship of complicity with one's own fans and to succeed in making them dance and have fun.”
