On 3 June, in the prestigious setting of the Kameha Grand Zurich, the best wines of Italian production excellence were presented by Merano Wine Festival and The Wine Hunter, in collaboration with Vinum. In addition to the wineries' exhibition, a tasting guided by the WineHunter Helmuth Köcher was planned, to discover the selections specially chosen for this event.

Tuttoitalia's wine tasting was entrusted to the sector specialists of the Ristorante Al 21 who, among the many exhibition stands, particularly appreciated the Aglianico (100%) offered by the Tenuta Cavalier Pepe di Sant'Angelo all'Esca (Avellino). The distinctiveness of a mineral soil lends character to the wine production of this area, where the Greco di Tufo DOCG (2018) is also highly prized, perfectly balanced, produced in a narrow circle of municipalities. Also notable is the Aglianico Kapnios produced by the Masseria Frattasi di Montesarchio a Benevento. The Kapnios, a wine mentioned by Plato and Pliny, is the first dried-grape dry wine in history; its smoky flavour comes from the drying of the grapes in the sun, for an exceptional structural result on the palate. The hills of the Oltrepò Pavese, represented by the Casteggio Prime Alture estate, instead give a rosé IGT “Sotto campo” produced with 100% Merlot that has already won over the best starred restaurants of the Lombard capital and confirms its quality in this tasting in German-speaking Switzerland.
We conclude with a moving wine produced in the Argena wineries, in Tuscany, in the 2001 harvest: the advanced age of the vines and the traditional winemaking method created a product with unique, refined characteristics from another era, as, moreover, are the owners who present their production. The winemaking is carried out in French oak barrels and bottled in 2006. Of the 8,219 bottles produced, it was an honour to be able to savour one for a perfect emotional experience. This is the first step of a tour that will see the Italian glasses take centre stage also in Vienna and in Munich in the coming weeks. Prosit!
