On 26 March 2026 the Kirche Enge in Zurich will host “Canto delle Creature”, a musical project of great intensity promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute Zurich. The appointment is set for 7.30 pm, with doors opening at 7.00 pm, at Bürglistrasse 15.
The event was created to mark the 800th anniversary of the death of Francis of Assisi, a central figure of European spirituality and author of the famous Cantico delle Creature. The concert offers a contemporary rereading of that founding text, weaving together music, words and sound research in a dialogue between past and present.
The protagonist of the project is Ambrogio Sparagna, one of the most authoritative interpreters of Italian folk music. At his side are four soloists of the Orchestra Popolare Italiana of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome and the poet Davide Rondoni. The encounter between traditional instruments, voices and poetic textures builds a sound journey that places the relationship between man, nature and the sense of the sacred at its centre.
“Canto delle Creature” takes shape as a musical experience that unites a learned dimension and folk roots, giving the audience back the evocative power of the Franciscan text through contemporary arrangements and a musical writing capable of enhancing timbres and expressive dynamics.
The initiative is part of the cultural programme of the Italian Cultural Institute Zurich, which continues to offer high-profile projects dedicated to spreading Italian culture and music in Switzerland.
