Al Bano and Romina return to Switzerland

"For 10 years we have been writing the history of the Christmas Sessions, which creates emotions and suggestions for a vast audience. With the 6-day event, we try to create captivating musical moments in the often frantic period before Christmas and to accompany our guests into the holidays and the end of the year."

Al Bano and Romina Power have been the example of a fairy tale for fifty years. Albano Carrisi, a young and talented singer from Puglia who emigrated to Milan in search of happiness as a singer, began his professional artistic career in 1965, recording a song by Gene Pitney and then performing alongside Adriano Celentano. His participation in the Festival delle Rose in 1966, the encounter with Pino Donaggio, but above all his participation in the television programme "Settevoci" directed by the very young Pippo Baudo, where he won thanks to the famous "applause meter", marked the true beginnings of his professional career. As was usual with the great hits of the time, the song became a film and on the set of the film "Nel sole" Al Bano met a young daughter of the arts, Romina Power, daughter of two great Hollywood stars, Tyrone Power and Linda Christian, a very young and talented artist who had recently arrived in Italy. Despite the resistance of the two families, coming from completely opposite worlds (a simple, "rural" family from southern Italy for Al Bano, and an American celebrity family for Romina), the two young artists fell in love and began their love story.

Their careers suddenly took shape: Al Bano debuted at the Sanremo Festival in 1968 (presented by his friend Pippo Baudo) and won the Special Critics' Prize, then in the summer of 1969 he won the Disco per l'estate with "Pensando a te" and wrote for Romina Power her hit "Acqua di mare", in which he also appeared as a singer. Their story now filled the magazines of newspapers all over the world. Their marriage was sealed on 26 July 1970 when the two lovers wed. Four children were born from their union, and soon the two decided to perform together: it was the beginning of a career so successful that the history of Italian music had never seen anything like it. Al Bano and Romina Power began collaborating with "Storia di due innamorati" in 1969 and then in 1970, but in 1975 they decided to perform as a duo.

In 1982 they debuted at the Sanremo Festival, and here too with a bang: their song "Felicità" came second and travelled around the world. Even today it is a true anthem, not just a song. Countless are the Italian and worldwide hits that made them famous all over the world. Among others: "Magic, oh Magic" (again the Eurovision Song Contest, 1985), "Liberty", "Che angelo sei", "Sempre sempre", "Tu soltanto tu"... The solo careers of the two artists run in parallel, but the strength lies in the couple: Al Bano and Romina Power are the protagonists of a fairy tale all over the world.

Their artistic adventure continued with great success until 1995, counting important international collaborations such as the one with Montserrat Caballé. The painful loss of their firstborn Ylenia in 1995 is probably one of the reasons why the two artists decided in 1997 to suspend their performances and productions as a couple. This also broke their love story. On an artistic level too, Al Bano felt the need to reclaim his role as a solo artist and began a recording journey studded with great songs, many participations in the Sanremo Festival and incredible world tours. There have been numerous live experiences abroad, including participation in a concert with José Carreras and Plácido Domingo (Al Bano taking the place of Luciano Pavarotti), during which the artist was able to show off all his vocal talents. In the collective imagination, in the hearts of listeners all over the world, the dream of the interrupted love between the two is experienced as a personal sorrow. Despite the personal lives of the two artists, the end of their marriage was almost a personal defeat for the whole world, so the reaction was fitting: when Al Bano and Romina Power returned together to the same stage in Russia in 2013 after 19 years, the news resonated almost like that of a country emerging from a war. The public wants to see them together, despite everything life has put in front of them, despite personal choices, despite the pain, the separation, the estrangement, despite their new lives: to see them together again, and for the public to see them.
