Because we are Italian! Maneskin conquer Zurich

The sold-out ticket sales come as no surprise: the tickets have been impossible to find for months. This is the youngest band with the greatest worldwide success, and the credit is all theirs.

The range of people crowding the entrance of the Hallenstadion in an endless queue goes from teenagers to the parents who gladly accompany them. While I take a few photographs, I stop to talk with the fans to understand why they love the band and which artist they prefer. Damiano first of all ( though he was more popular with long hair) and Vittoria, who bewitches everyone with her energy and her sensuality.

People like Maneskin. They certainly appeal, and they bring different generations together with an electrifying and engaging rock repertoire that is nonetheless far removed from the stigma of the bands of the 70s and 80s, when the word rock was also associated with sex and drugs. A modern vision, then, of a musical genre which, without pointless comparisons to the sacred monsters of rock of the past, right now simply “does its thing”. They play well, they sing in tune without the aid of electronic help. They entertain with their provocative outfits, but perhaps more to champion a fluid identity to be accepted than to glorify themselves.

At the start of the concert the stage is entirely covered by an enormous red veil that hides everything, but at the first notes and the first sound of Damiano's voice the Hallenstadion erupts in a roar of appreciation that continues even after the veil falls, revealing the whole band in all their energy. It opens with “Don't wanna sleep”, “Gossip” and “Zitti e buoni”. Damiano's charisma and stage presence enchant the audience as if he were not just 24 years old: on the contrary, he moves, he urges the crowd on, he fascinates  and he sings with the charisma of a music veteran. With “Beggin” the entire Hallenstadion moves with hands in the air, jumping to the rhythm of the music as rarely happens even with rock bands of the highest level and experience. The concert is a mix of songs from their latest album and instrumental solos by bassist Vittoria with drummer Ethan and by Thomas with  his guitar, lit by a single evocative spotlight. From the central stage Damiano and Thomas move to the middle of the Hallenstadion for two more pop songs such as “Vent'anni”, but it is with “I wanna be your slave” and “The loneliest” that they get all their fans singing at the top of their lungs and stir their emotions.

Well done, guys, proud of a show that, hidden behind an international promotion, in any case tastes strongly of irrepressible Italian talent!
