All the characters portrayed in his works correspond to this truthful image, both then and now. Even though in 2013 we celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of this great composer, we cannot let go of the emotions of his gigantic works, which continue to be presented so vividly today, as if we were with him in his own time.
He was deeply committed to his country. As early as 1842, the chorus "Va pensiero" from the opera Nabucco became Italy's unofficial anthem. In 1874 Giuseppe Verdi was appointed Senator of Italy. In his music, Giuseppe Verdi brilliantly shows us great love and at the same time tragedy in figures such as Violetta Valéry from La traviata, Aida or Rigoletto. His works radiate great passion and lyricism, but also a delight in humour and wit. All of it finds its expression during this wonderful concert. In the programme we hear the most beloved and at the same time most famous fragments of his operatic works such as La Traviata, Rigoletto, Aida, Il trovatore, Nabucco, I vespri siciliani…
The world-famous arias, duets and ensembles, as well as the magical choruses with the famous Va pensiero from the opera Nabucco and the triumphal march from Aida, in harmony with the set design, the fantastic costumes and the original choreography, come together in an unforgettable show.
The GIUSEPPE VERDI GALA is a European production: the orchestra and choir of OPERA POLSKA, founded in 1989 by Maestro Marek Tracz in collaboration with Wroclaw Television, are made up of the best musicians and singers from the leading opera houses of Poland and other countries.
What would the world of music be without the operas La Traviata or Aida? No Italian composer has left a musical legacy as rich as Giuseppe Verdi's.
