The appointment with the classical music of Giuseppe Verdi takes the stage in December. The European production project presented by the great Polish Opera, curated by Maestro Marcin Wolniewski, is called “Die grosse Giuseppe Verdi Gala” and brings together the most celebrated works of the Italian master.
Giuseppe Verdi wrote to his friend: “To copy the truth may be a good thing, but to invent the truth is better, much better”. All the people portrayed in his works correspond to this image of truth, both then and now. Even though in 2013 we celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of this great composer, the emotions of his gigantic works, which even today are portrayed so vividly as if we were with him in his own time, do not let us go. In his music Giuseppe Verdi brilliantly shows us great love and, at the same time, tragedy in characters such as Violetta Valéry from La traviata, Aida or Rigoletto. His works radiate great passion and lyricism, but also joy in humour and wit. All of this finds its expression during this wonderful concert. In the programme one hears the most popular and at the same time most famous excerpts from his lyric works performed all over the world, such as La Traviata, Rigoletto, Aida, Il trovatore, Nabucco, Vespri siciliani.
The world-renowned arias, duets and ensembles, the enchanting choruses with the famous Va pensiero from the opera Nabucco and the Triumphal March from Aida, together with the set design, the fantastic costumes and the original choreographies, form a whole in an unforgettable show.
No Italian composer has left a musical legacy as rich as Giuseppe Verdi. His international popularity was so wide, already during his lifetime, that he received honours and awards in half the world. From the Emperor of Austria Franz Joseph, to Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte, emperor of the French, from the Emperor of all the Russias Alexander II to Kaiser Wilhelm I of Germany and even from the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire Abdülaziz, to name but a few.
